The Scream

In 1893 an expressionist artist Edvard Munch, created four versions of a composition. All of which were given the name “The Scream.” These paintings are now being featured in the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo, Munch Museum.

There were two ways these paintings were created, one by painting, and the other by pastels. Nonetheless many people believed that the composition where the pastels were used, fabricated for more effective content. In this case, the selected piece of work is of a figure expressing severe torment against a simple landscape, yet confused orange sky. The compositions landscape is a recreation of the Oslofjord in Norway.

Personally this is my all time favorite piece of work, not because of its overwhelming uniqueness but because of its past. It has been stolen many times in its history, probably because these compositions can be worth up to $119,922,600. Unfortunately after being stolen many times some of the compositions have suffered damage over the years, although minor, still very tragic.
